    Mevan

    Mevan Piyasena, a Freelance Naturalist since 2000, established his company ‘Wild Angles with Mevan’ offering, Wildlife Photography guided tours in Sri Lanka and selected destinations around the world.
    His late father’s regular visits to Yala National Park with him at very young age rooted the passion of experiencing, observing, and appreciating the wonders of the wild and gradually swayed him to select his carrier as a Naturalist and Wildlife photographer.

    He started his carrier through a more practical approach as an active member of the Field Ornithology Group of Sri Lanka and Young Zoologists’ Association of Sri Lanka. Later he connected with many leading organizations in the field of wildlife and photography. Including,The Wildlife and Nature Protection Society, The National Trust and Photographic Society of Sri Lanka. These associations gave him the experience, knowledge and the opportunity of sharing knowledge with experts, in the field.

    Mevan obtained a Wildlife Management and Conservation certificate in 2005 and Advance Tourism Management certificate in 2012 from the Open University of Sri Lanka.

    He is a founding member of ‘Yala Leopard Centre’ and currently engaged in many programs on leopard conservation and awareness. As well as research on leopard identification and behavior collaborated with the Department of Wildlife conservation, Sri Lanka. He has participated in several research projects and continues to dedicate his free time for conservation and research-based projects in Sri Lanka.

    Mevan was recognized by ‘Matador Networks’ in 2017 as the best local nature guide at Yala National park in Sri Lanka, where they had recognized as the best place to see leopards in Sri Lanka.
    The prestigious conservation body Remembering Wildlife’s publication Remembering Leopards selected one of Mevan’s Leopard images for its book published in 2023.His was one of only two Sri Lankan photographers featured in this publication which has generated the highest total donations for conservation for Remembering Wildlife.

    He collaborates with many wildlife photographers&photo tour organizers around the world including Tropical Herping (Ecuador), Arnfinn Johansen Wildlife Photography (Norway), Amima Mundi Magazine (Italy),Bhagh Safaris (India), Nature Wanders (India)&Borneo Sandakan Tours (Bonio – Malaysia).
